• Creates Unwanted Competition: Using raw bio char creates competition for nutrients, water and microbes. The raw bio char steals these necessities from your plant and can affect the growth and survival of your plants. 

• Affects Soil Health and Structure: The raw bio char soaks in nutrients, microbes and water from the soil, which affects the overall structure and health of your soil. This makes your soil more susceptible to erosion and continuous nutrient leaching. 

• Alters Soil pH: The pH of your soil can also be altered, as many biochars are alkaline (basic), and can spike and disrupt the pH or your soil. 

Here is how we activate our Biochar: 

Production: A big batch of raw horticulture biochar and our worm manure are mixed together, then lukewarm water is added, which soaks and absorbs the nutrients and microbes into the pores of the biochar. This then sits and cures for 2 weeks and then is dried and bagged. 

Activation: 

We activate the biochar by adding our nutrient dense worm manure that allows for macro and micro nutrients such as Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium to be introduced into the pore space of the bio char. 

Inoculation: 

The biochar is also inoculated with microbes through the worm manure such as mycorrhizal fungi, which creates a network between the soil and the roots allowing for better water and nutrient absorption.

*Note for DIY Biochar production:

This process is messy and can be harmful if done at home. The fine carbon particles become airborne easily and if inhaled or get in eyes can cause many health effects. Proper ventilation and PPE are essential. Our Activated Biochar gives you all the benefits without the safety risks and mess.
