Houseplants
Why Jocelyn’s Soil Booster is right for: Houseplant parents
Whether you’ve just bought your first succulent or are propagating your tenth fiddle leaf fig, growing houseplants is a fulfilling, meditative practise that brings a little bit of nature indoors. And it’s not without its challenges: tropical plants can be fussy, while mites, mould, and still indoor air can wreak havoc on your plant babies. Jocelyn’s Soil Booster is one way to ensure your indoor plants stay healthy, strong and lush — here’s how.
Will work for nutrients
Because houseplants are confined to an indoor environment, they have limited access to the nutrients that naturally exist in outdoor ecosystems. The worm castings in Jocelyn’s Soil Booster are rich in microbes that fortify soil, maximizing existing minerals and feeding beneficial, necessary nutrients to your houseplants’ roots, exactly when plants need them. We often hear from our customers that they see noticeable improvements to their houseplants within two weeks of using Jocelyn’s Soil Booster.
Flower power
Flowering plants, from decorative indoor tropicals to fruiting plants and trees, benefit most from Jocelyn’s Soil Booster, as worm manure — and the microbes in it — feed natural growth stimulators to plants from the root up. Plus, since Jocelyn’s Soil Booster contains no synthetic chemicals, you’ll never experience the root burn caused by some chemical fertilizers.
No chemicals, no concerns
While we can’t do anything about the mess that might result from children or pets mucking around in your houseplants, we can assure you that Jocelyn’s Soil Booster won’t harm your little ones: it contains no chemicals at all, so if your kids or four-legged family members decide to go in for a taste, they’re completely safe from harm. Some research has shown that worm castings help discourage the presence of spider mites, one of indoor growers’ worst enemies, so you can also consider it a toxin-free form of pest control.
Water less, worry less
One of the greatest things about Jocelyn’s Soil Booster is its regenerative power: the powerful microbes in worm castings help to fortify and rebuild soil’s natural structure, making it much better at retaining moisture. This means your houseplants’ soil will dry out less frequently, which means less watering for you! (Of course, keep an eye on things — you’ll need to adjust your watering schedule once you start using Jocelyn’s Soil Booster, so it can help to use a moisture meter to get a better sense of how your soil’s moisture levels respond to worm manure.)
Small bags for small spaces
If your indoor growing and storage spaces are limited, you’re in luck: because Jocelyn’s Soil Booster is such a concentrated growing solution, a little goes a long way. Our 800 gram and 4 kilogram bags are much more compact than traditional fertilizer bags making storage easy. Plus, our labels are pretty cute, if we do say so ourselves — we’d understand if you decided to keep your bag of Jocelyn’s Soil Booster on display.
HOW TO USE
For cuttings and seed-starting: Ensure that Jocelyn’s Soil Booster comes in contact with the seed or cutting as soon as possible, to ensure the microbes get to work immediately. When you plant your cuttings, use at least a 10:1 mix of soil to Jocelyn’s Soil Booster, or as much as 3:1.
Repotting: Simply ensure your potting mix is between 10-30% Jocelyn’s Soil Booster.
Top dressing/regular maintenance: At least once a month, apply a handful of Jocelyn’s Soil Booster around the base of the plant, and water well.
Soil-aid tea: Your plants enjoy a cup of tea as much as you do! To make a soil-aid tea, soak 1 cup of Jocelyn’s Soil Booster in 10 litres of water for 6-12 hours (do not exceed 12 hours). Use the tea to water your plants as you normally would.
Recovery: For sick houseplants, repot using the directions above, and then top dress with Jocelyn’s Soil Booster on a weekly basis, until you see improvement.
